This vial contains the eye-balls of an ancient mystical sage. He claimed to have seen such wonders and horrors of realms far-off. By gazing into his eye, you too can see far-off places.
This item has uD8 charges for the following properties. If empty, it can recharge one usage-die step for each day spent submerged in wine. If you spend the last charge, Consult the Bones.
-
Spend an action and expend a charge: One of the eyeballs grows to the size of a small crystal orb, allowing you to see where-ever the second eyeball is placed. This effect has no range limit.
-
Spend an action and expend a charge: The Eyes temporarily grow tendrils that burrow into your head. While attached (max duration 10 minutes), they allow you to fluently read and write one of the following: Undercommon, Infernal, Abyssal, or Celestial.
In your time with the artifact, you’ve managed to awaken the sliver of consciousness left in the eyes.
-
Spend an action and expend a charge: Consult with the sagely knowledge of the Eyes. For one question per charge: You know where and from whom you can obtain relevant lore. Usually, this information comes from a library, scriptorium, university, or a sage or other learned person or creature. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is secreted away in an almost inaccessible place, or that it simply cannot be found. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.
Consult the Bones (roll 1d20)
5-20: The Bones tell you nothing.
4: The seer demands leisure: The eyes must be massaged by an Invisible Servant before they are able to be recharged.
3: The seer demands payment: The eyes must be submerged in a bottle of wine worth 50gp before they are able to be recharged.
2: The seer does not appreciate being pushed to their limits, as you suffer the effect of a _Chill Touch (Caster Level 1).
1: A small rift to the far realm opens, —complete with the wailing of insane dreamers— as thousands of tiny tentacles lash out to drag the eyes back to their final master. As there is balance in all things, somewhere else, a small portal opens and something comes through to your world.
